"Golf is the closest game to the game we call life. You get bad breaks from good shots; you get good breaks from bad shots - but you have to play the ball where it lies."

For my first winter in the golf business, I head back south to the beautiful Florida Keys to work at the Ocean Reef Club.
I would work at the Ocean Reef Club from early November all the way to mid/late April. I learned a lot about tournament operations and being calm in high-stress situations. We also had a lot of fun too with the Mentor-Mentee program, being paired up with one members at the club to take us under there wing to get to know each other, play golf, and to learn from them. One very fun incentive for working hard at the Ocean Reef Club is to have the honor to play in the Bag Room Open. This is a Match Play tournament against all the other golf staff to see who is the top dog.

At the end of my first season at the Ocean Reef Club, I returned to Sunningdale Country Club to be promoted to 3rd Assistant Professional. I was in charge of managing and assistant the outside operations, the pro shop assistant, and all tournaments held at the club.

After another successful season at Sunningdale Country club, I then returned south to the Ocean Reef Club for another fantastic season where I am learning a lot about the basics of how to teach and tournament operations.

I would continue to work at Ocean Reef in the Winter and Sunningdale in the Summers and eventually would be promoted to work inside the golf shop at Ocean Reef as well as become the 2nd Assistant Professional at Sunningdale. These promotions would give me plenty of responsibility in terms of lessons and being extremely hands-on with golf tournaments (Clinics, Outings, running 2-day member/guests, etc).
Throughout those years, I have been making great progress with my personal tournament playing. I’ve qualified for the 99th and 101st Westchester Open, numerous single day Assistant’s Tour events in the low 70’s, as well as my most recent finish in the Assistant’s Championship at Bethpage Red, firing two rounds of 73 and 69. Patience, hard work, and consistency really pay off!
